NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand the Capital’s electric-vehicle charging network from nearly 9,000 stations to about 32,000 within the next four years, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the roadmap for transforming the city into a comprehensive EV hub.
At a high-level meeting on the new EV policy, the Chief Minister directed officials to prioritise fast-charging technology, ensure uninterrupted power supply and develop strategically located charging facilities across metro stations, commercial centres, railway precincts and government premises. She also called for the phased conversion of existing slow chargers into fast chargers and stressed the importance of solar-powered stations and commuter amenities such as seating and drinking water.
The expansion drive will rely on close coordination with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the Delhi Development Authority and vehicle manufacturers to utilise available land and parking infrastructure, with the aim of accelerating Delhi’s transition to a cleaner and more sustainable urban transport system.
