Chandigarh: Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, has secured the deportation of three wanted operatives linked to the Davinder Bambiha gang from Malaysia, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on transnational organised crime under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign.
The three accused—Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal, a resident of Faridkot, and Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, both residents of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan—were arrested by Punjab Police at the IGI Airport in New Delhi following their deportation from Malaysia. They were subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the trio were key Malaysia-based operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang and were wanted in multiple cases involving murder, extortion, explosives and a planned hand-grenade blast in Ludhiana, with alleged links to Pakistan’s ISI.
ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad said the deportation was the result of a sustained, intelligence-led operation lasting several months. Investigators closely tracked the fugitives’ movements and activities before coordinated efforts led to their detention in Malaysia and eventual deportation to India.
IGP OFTEC Ashish Choudhary said Jaspreet Singh alias Jas Behbal travelled to Malaysia in June 2019, where he came into contact with a fugitive gangster and subsequently joined the Davinder Bambiha gang. He allegedly rose to become an important operative and has now been formally arrested in connection with the 2025 murder of Yadwinder Singh and the driver of Jeewanjot Singh Chahal alias Jugnu, a former Panjab University Chandigarh leader.
Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh were also identified as key gang operatives who allegedly tasked ground-level associates with carrying out a hand-grenade blast in Ludhiana city in 2025. The attack was reportedly foiled by Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, which arrested two associates and recovered a P86 Chinese hand grenade on October 27, 2025.
The Punjab Police said the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC), established on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working to identify criminals operating from abroad and accelerate their extradition so they can be brought back to Punjab to face legal action.
