SARIMUL LASKAR, SILCHAR :- In a significant step towards fulfilling a long-cherished dream, Katigora MLA Kamalakhya Dey has announced the establishment of a Government Women’s College in the area.
Addressing a large public meeting organised to demand the college, the MLA categorically declared that a government women’s college would be set up in Katigorah at the earliest. “We are fully committed to establishing a Women’s College in Katigorah,” he affirmed.
The gathering witnessed enthusiastic participation from local women, girl students, parents, public representatives, and residents. While speaking at the meeting, MLA Dey highlighted the acute difficulties faced by meritorious girls in the region due to the absence of a women’s college nearby. Many families are forced to discontinue their daughters’ higher education because of safety concerns and financial burdens associated with travelling to distant colleges.
Stressing the urgency of the project, he assured the people that necessary land, infrastructure, and other facilities would be arranged promptly. He added that discussions with the administration are underway and the process to materialise the project would begin soon.
One parent present at the meeting expressed joy, saying, “Today, hearing this direct commitment from the MLA has truly filled us with hope. If this college is established, our girls will be able to pursue higher education close to home.”
Local public representatives, teachers, social workers, and leaders of various organisations also attended the meeting. They strongly raised the demand for the college and expressed satisfaction with the MLA’s assurance.
Meanwhile, the Katigorah Upazila administration has also shown a positive attitude on the matter. Administrative officials informed that a proposal will be sent to the concerned department at the earliest.
Once established, the Government Women’s College is expected to open the doors of higher education for thousands of girls not only in Katigora but also in the surrounding upazilas. Conscious citizens believe that the institution will play a vital role not only in the field of education but also in women’s empowerment, social development, and the overall progress of the region.
