New Delhi: Tricolours fluttered and patriotic slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ echoed from Parliament Street to Kartavya Path as thousands of youths, volunteers, Delhi Government employees and citizens participated in the ‘Chalo Bhagat Singh Ke Saath’ walkathon organised by the Delhi Government on the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh.
Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta unveiled statues of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Amar Shaheed Rajguru and Sukhdev during the programme and also visited the historic courtroom located within the RCS Office Complex. Minister for Cooperation and Social Welfare Shri Ravinder Indraj Singh attended the event as Guest of Honour.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended her greetings to the participating youth and appreciated their enthusiasm for joining the journey dedicated to Bhagat Singh. She said the affection and spirit displayed by the young participants was commendable.
The RCS Office Complex, located on Parliament Street, has now been given the identity of ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Sangharsh Sthali’. Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said the complex was not merely a government office but an important historical heritage site associated with Bhagat Singh’s life and struggle.
According to Minister Ravinder Indraj , following Bhagat Singh’s arrest after the Assembly bombing, he was brought from the then Parliament Street Police Station to the courtroom situated within the complex, where proceedings in his case were conducted. After being entrusted with the Cooperation Department, Singh said he collected historical documents and records relating to the site and subsequently raised the issue of its preservation with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“It is a matter of great pride that the place which was known as the RCS Office will now be known as ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Sangharsh Sthali’,” Singh said, describing the move as a tribute by the Delhi Government to the country’s revolutionaries.
The walkathon began at Parliament Street and passed through Vitthal Bhai Patel House, Mavalankar Auditorium, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Rafi Marg and Krishi Bhawan before culminating at Kartavya Path.
At Kartavya Path, participants witnessed patriotic songs and cultural performances, followed by a light and sound show depicting the life, struggle and sacrifice of Bhagat Singh.
Minister Singh urged the youth to preserve the patriotic spirit witnessed during the programme. “The flame of patriotism that has been ignited in the heart of every youth today must never be allowed to fade,” he said, calling upon young people to carry forward the ideals, courage and dedication to the nation demonstrated by the martyrs.
