S.A.S. Nagar: Dr Rajinder Singh Sohal, recipient of the President of India’s awards and President of the Gatka Federation of India, has been unanimously elected President of the Punjab Gatka Association.
The election took place during a general body meeting of the Punjab Gatka Association held at the office of the Punjab Olympic Association in S.A.S. Nagar. Presidents and secretaries of various district associations across Punjab participated in the meeting.
Dr Sohal has played a significant role in promoting and propagating Gatka, with initiatives aimed at securing its inclusion in national-level events, Khelo India, Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan and other state-level sporting competitions. He has also been actively contributing to campaigns against drug abuse and working to promote Gatka internationally.
A retired senior Punjab Police officer, Dr Sohal is known for his integrity, social service and association with education and philanthropy. He holds a Ph.D. in Law and is a gold medallist in M.A. (Police Administration).
He has been honoured twice by the President of India with the Gallantry Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. He has also received the Punjab Chief Minister’s Medal and a State Award. He is regarded as a people-friendly and popular police officer.
Under his leadership, the Punjab Gatka Association is expected to undertake further initiatives to promote the traditional sport and encourage greater participation among the youth.
At the meeting, S. Baljinder Singh Toor was elected General Secretary, Davinder Singh Jugni Senior Vice-President, Arsad Dali Vice-President, Dr Kuldeep Singh (Principal) Treasurer, S. Raghvir Singh Secretary and Madam Jag Kiran Kaur Warraich Joint Secretary.
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Parminder Singh Kanda and Inderjit Singh Malli were elected as members of the association.
