Weapon supplier arrested in Ferozepur; accused had recently walked out of jail
CHANDIGARH/FEROZEPUR: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur busted a cross-border weapon smuggling module and arrested an alleged arms supplier with five .30 bore Glock pistols and four live cartridges.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the recovered weapons were smuggled into India through cross-border channels and were meant for distribution among criminal networks.
The accused, identified as Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Khehra Ke Uttar village in Ferozepur, has a criminal background and was released from jail barely a month ago.
Acting on a tip-off, CI Ferozepur conducted a secret operation in the Kulgarhi area and apprehended the accused with the cache of sophisticated weapons, said AIG CI Gursewak Singh.
Police said the accused was allegedly working on the directions of his handler and was tasked with supplying weapons to operatives of criminal gangs.
An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered at Kulgarhi police station, and further investigations are underway to trace the module’s forward and backward linkages.
