Article By: Mir Yar Baloch

The Republic of Balochistan is a ray of hope for the world. The Balochistan narrative has now crossed the threshold of merely demanding independence and has emerged before the world as a dignified economic, defence, trade, diplomatic, and political partner. Balochistan not only possesses the capacity to determine its own future but, because of its geographical importance, immense natural resources, and unique position connected to the region, has tremendous potential to become an important economic and trade bridge for the international community.

Balochistan has once again revived and introduced its suppressed voice and narrative of the past eighty years to the world: that Balochistan is not a province of Pakistan, but that Pakistan’s military is present on its land illegally, unethically, without political legitimacy, and without the will and consent of the Baloch nation. Balochistan is a region where the six crore Baloch people living there have been deprived by Pakistan’s external occupying army of access to free means of communication through which they can raise their voice, speak, and write; they have not been allowed to operate an independent television channel, radio station, or even an independent newspaper in their national Balochi language according to their own will.

To understand Balochistan, it must be understood outside Pakistan’s official narrative, Pakistan’s Parliament, Pakistani journalists, Pakistani scholars, clerics, and the statements, press releases, and positions issued by Pakistani embassies abroad. Balochistan must be understood through its own historical, political, national, and ground realities.

Balochistan is a region whose land contains five hundred different types of minerals, whose value in the global market is stated to be more than fifty trillion dollars. In addition, Balochistan’s geographical position gives it the status of a natural link, trade route, and economic bridge between Central, South, and Western Asia. An independent and peaceful Balochistan can not only open new doors of development and prosperity for its own people but can also lay the foundation for a new era of trade, investment, energy, communications, and mutual cooperation throughout the region.

Balochistan today is not asking the world for help; Balochistan is offering to help the world. An independent, secular, democratic, and peaceful Balochistan can present a different and positive political path in opposition to religious extremism, militancy, and proxy politices of artificial Pakistan. The independence of Balochistan is not only a matter of the Baloch nation’s fundamental political right and its control over its own land and resources; it can also become an important step toward lasting peace, stability, and economic cooperation throughout the region.

For those who are not fully familiar with the history of Balochistan, Balochistan appears to be part of Pakistan and to be seeking separation from Pakistan. But according to Balochistan’s historical position, the reality is that Balochistan declared its independence on 11 August 1947. Balochistan is urging the world to recognise its true identity.

The recognition of Balochistan’s independence will not require the world to resort to bloodshed or conflict, because the six crore people of Balochistan are fully prepared to control their own land and resources. Without the consent of the people of the Republic of Balochistan, Pakistan’s economic machinery cannot continue to operate in the same manner, nor can agreements made by Pakistan with international powers concerning Balochistan’s mineral resources continue in the same form.

The Republic of Balochistan is openly telling the world today that agreements made with Pakistan concerning Balochistan’s resources are like asking for a share in stolen property from a thief without ever speaking to the rightful owner. And when the rightful owner (Republic of Balochistan) resists in order to reclaim the wealth that has been stolen, neither the thief (Pakistan) will be able to benefit from that wealth nor will the thief’s sympathetic partner (those who made agreements with Pakistan) be able to gain anything from it.

Therefore, it is now imperative for the international community to immediately withdraw from Pakistan’s unilateral and contested narrative and from agreements that have been made without the will and consent of the people of Balochistan.

An independent Republic of Balochistan can become a new centre of peace, secular political thought, free trade, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity. Its geographical importance can make it a natural economic bridge between different regions of Asia, while its vast mineral resources can create new opportunities for the global economy.

Above all, the free and peaceful existence of Balochistan can become an effective path toward ending the terrorism, and proxy wars sponsored by Pakistan for the past eight decades. A Balochistan that makes its own decisions regarding its land, resources, and foreign relations can play a fundamental role in guiding the region away from perpetual conflict, intervention, and proxy politics and toward peace, trade, development, and mutual respect.

The Republic of Balochistan is not merely the name of a future for the Baloch nation; it represents the vision of a peaceful, economically integrated, secular, and stable region where geography is not a battlefield, but a bridge of economic and political cooperation between nations.
