Chandigarh/Ludhiana: In a significant push towards modern policing, Ludhiana has become the third city in Punjab—after Jalandhar and Mohali—to implement an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). The system was formally launched by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Tuesday.

The newly established ICCC marks a major upgrade in the city’s surveillance and traffic enforcement capabilities. As part of the project, nearly 1,700 high-resolution cameras have been installed at 259 strategic locations, strengthening the overall monitoring network.

The ITMS, deployed at 46 points across the city, is capable of detecting up to nine types of traffic violations, including red light jumping, stop line breaches, riding without helmets, triple riding, overspeeding, zebra crossing violations, wrong-side driving and improper parking.

Describing the ICCC as a key step towards preventive policing, Gaurav Yadav said the facility integrates multiple policing units—including Traffic, Police Control Room (PCR), Safe City and Wireless—under one roof. This consolidation has improved coordination and reduced emergency response time from around 15 minutes to just 7–8 minutes.

During his visit, the DGP, accompanied by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and Deputy Inspector General Satinder Singh, also held a detailed review meeting with field officers. He stressed the importance of swift, transparent and citizen-centric resolution of public grievances.

In a gesture aimed at boosting morale, the DGP also participated in a ‘Bada Khana’ at the Police Lines, sharing a meal with over 550 police personnel across ranks. He noted that such interactions strengthen unity and reinforce the force’s commitment to public service.

The visit also saw recognition of high-performing officers, with several personnel being honoured for their contributions to policing. Senior officers, including Ankur Gupta, Tushar Gupta, Darpan Ahluwalia and Rishabh Bhola, were present on the occasion.
