Chandigarh/Amritsar, September 23: Punjab Police have busted another cross-border narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, arresting four persons and recovering 20 kg of heroin, taking the total quantity of heroin seized by Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar to 74 kg in just one week.
The latest operation is the fourth major heroin recovery within a week as part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing drive to make the state drug-free, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohan, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh Colony; Deepak Bakhshi, from Partap Bazar; Rishabh Kumar, from Golden Avenue; and Ishaan Bedi, from New Ranjit Pura, all in Amritsar.
Police also impounded two motorcycles allegedly used for transporting the consignment — a black Splendor bearing registration number PB02-BT-3925 and a red Passion Pro bearing registration number PB02-CL-4487.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the module was being operated by a Dubai-based drug smuggler, in coordination with his Punjab-based associates and foreign-based smugglers.
According to the police, CI Amritsar teams received specific information that operatives linked to the Dubai-based smuggler had retrieved a large heroin consignment from the Indo-Pak border area near Village Rajatal in Tarn Taran district. The consignment was allegedly sent through drones from across the border.
Acting on the information, the police team conducted a raid near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurudwara, Amritsar, where the four accused were intercepted while allegedly preparing to deliver the consignment to another party. Police subsequently recovered 20 kg of heroin from their possession.
The latest seizure brings the total heroin recovery by CI Amritsar during the past week to 74 kg. Earlier operations resulted in recoveries of 27 kg on September 16, 10 kg on September 18 and 17 kg on September 19.
The DGP said further investigation was underway to identify the complete network and establish its backward and forward linkages.
A case, FIR No. 61 dated September 23, 2026, has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Four Major Recoveries in One Week
- September 16: Four arrested; 27 kg heroin and a sophisticated foreign-made .30 bore PX5 pistol with three cartridges recovered.
- September 18: One person arrested; 10 kg heroin recovered.
- September 19: Three persons arrested; 17 kg heroin recovered.
- September 23: Four persons arrested; 20 kg heroin recovered.
The investigation into the latest cross-border smuggling module remains underway.
