New Delhi, September 25: Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Thursday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj of “double political standards” and questioned his silence over allegations involving former AAP MLA Dayanand Chandela.
Kapoor said Bharadwaj had been raising allegations against a BJP MLA following the September 6 incident in Satya Niketan, concerning a building constructed by the MLA’s family on what was described as private land.
He, however, alleged that Bharadwaj had remained silent over the alleged occupation of a Delhi government building and property by Chandela, a former AAP MLA. Chandela’s wife had also served as an AAP MLA, the spokesperson said.
The BJP spokesperson referred to a recent case involving a Choupal building constructed on land belonging to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) near the Khiala village cemetery. According to Kapoor, the premises were allegedly occupied by Chandela.
Kapoor claimed that when a government team went to vacate the premises, Chandela allegedly locked the property from inside and attacked a staff member with a stick when the official attempted to cut the lock. He further alleged that Chandela subsequently stood naked at a window, following which the government team returned.
Calling Bharadwaj’s alleged political approach “condemnable”, Kapoor said that if the AAP leader was making allegations against a BJP MLA, he should first ask Chandela to either vacate the alleged encroachment on government land or quit the AAP.
