The banned insurgent outfit Baloch Liberation Army on Thursday claimed responsibility for a deadly ambush on Pakistani security forces in the Kalat region of Balochistan, alleging that four military personnel were killed and two others injured during a fierce hour-long gun battle.
In a statement issued by BLA spokesperson Azad Baloch, the group said its guerrilla fighters targeted a Pakistani military convoy at Khazinai in Kalat after accusing the forces of harassing and intimidating local civilians during an operation in the area.
According to the statement, the attack involved heavy and light weapons, including rocket launchers and sniper fire, with the clash continuing from 1 pm to 2 pm. The separatist outfit claimed the troops were surrounded “from all directions” and left with little chance to retaliate.
The BLA further declared that it would continue armed resistance against what it described as Pakistan’s “occupation” of Balochistan and warned of more attacks against security forces operating in the restive province.
There was no immediate confirmation or response from the Pakistani military regarding the claims made by the insurgent group.
