Party to approach Delhi Commission for Women, seeks public apology and removal of graphic
New Delhi: The Delhi BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of insulting women through a controversial social media poster featuring Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, released on the occasion of Karwa Chauth.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that the graphic, carrying the headline “Har Har Rekha, Ghar Ghar Theka”, depicted the woman Chief Minister carrying a basket full of liquor bottles on her head. He described the poster as an insult to the dignity of women and said the women of Delhi would not forgive AAP for the act.
Kapoor raised three key objections to the poster, questioning whether portraying a woman Chief Minister in such a manner amounted to an insult to the mothers and sisters of Delhi. He also accused AAP of using a failed liquor policy introduced during its tenure in government as a political weapon to target the current Chief Minister.
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the use of the logo of a reputed news channel in the graphic was misleading and undermined the credibility of the media.
Announcing legal action, Kapoor said the Delhi BJP would lodge a formal complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women, seeking an investigation into the matter.
He demanded that AAP immediately remove the controversial poster from social media and issue a public apology to the women of Delhi.
Kapoor also criticised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that the party had failed to respect women and had now crossed another line by targeting a woman Chief Minister through such a graphic.
Warning of political consequences, the BJP spokesperson said the women of Delhi were not weak and asserted that voters would give AAP a befitting reply in the 2027 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.
