Sarimul haque laskar,Silchar: In a deeply shocking and tragic incident, a 4-year-old child lost his life due to alleged gross negligence by a teacher at Holy Flower Senior Secondary School in Katigorah, Cachar district of Assam. The incident has triggered widespread anger and grief among local parents, residents, and the bereaved family.
The deceased, Shakibul Alam, a student of KG-1, suddenly collapsed in the classroom during tiffin time. According to preliminary information and CCTV footage, the child choked on food (possibly noodles or chips), leading to the fatal incident.
Footage from the classroom reportedly shows that two teachers were present in the room at the time. After Shakibul fell unconscious, his young classmate repeatedly ran to the teacher and informed her, saying, “Madam, my friend has fallen down!” In a desperate attempt to save his friend, the little boy even tried to pull the teacher by the hand towards the spot. However, the teacher, who was engaged in conversation with another person, remained completely indifferent and did not respond to the child’s repeated pleas for help.
The teachers reportedly stood just 3 metres away from where the boy was lying but took a long time to notice and respond. By the time they acted, Shakibul’s condition had become critical. He was rushed to the Model Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Shakibul, a resident of Gangapur, was the only child of his father, Haris Uddin. The family has alleged that they were informed about the death only after the child was taken to the hospital.
Anger has further intensified after the school principal’s controversial statement, in which he reportedly blamed the parents to some extent for the incident. Local guardians have strongly reacted to this remark, questioning the accountability of private schools.
Many parents have raised serious concerns: “Do private schools only care about collecting hefty fees? Don’t they have any responsibility towards the safety and proper supervision of young children?”
Police have reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The CCTV footage has been seized and is being thoroughly examined. The exact cause of death is expected to become clearer once the post-mortem report is released. So far, no formal case has been registered against any teacher or the school administration, though parents are demanding swift action.
This heart-wrenching tragedy has once again highlighted serious questions about child safety, teacher responsibility, and accountability in private educational institutions. A four-year-old innocent child cried for help through his friend, but his desperate appeals went unheard just a few metres away from the teacher on duty.
Had the teacher been a little more vigilant and attentive, this unfortunate incident might have been avoided.
The incident is not just a personal loss for one family — it serves as a grave warning to the entire education system regarding the safety and well-being of young children in schools.
