New Delhi, September 18: The Delhi BJP has stepped up its attack on the Aam Aadmi Party over allegations involving its Trilokpuri municipal councillor Vijay Kumar in connection with the suicide of sanitation worker Deepak, demanding the councillor’s resignation and action from the party leadership.

Delhi BJP Media Head and Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said people were seeking answers over the allegations against Kumar and questioned why the AAP leadership had not taken action despite the matter being raised by Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra.

Kapoor alleged that the AAP’s silence had raised questions about whether its councillor was being shielded by the party leadership. He also expressed concern over the alleged emotional and financial crisis facing the deceased worker’s family.

According to Kapoor, BJP Mahila Morcha workers will stage a protest outside Vijay Kumar’s office in Trilokpuri on September 19, demanding his resignation.

He said that if Kumar did not resign and the AAP took no action, the Delhi BJP would hold a protest outside the AAP office on Ferozeshah Road on September 20. The protest, he said, would seek answers from the party’s senior leadership over its handling of the allegations.

Kapoor specifically questioned the positions of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bhardwaj, asking whether the party stood with its councillor or supported impartial action to ensure justice for the deceased sanitation worker and his family.

“If the Aam Aadmi Party believes that the allegations against Vijay Kumar are serious, then why the delay in taking action?” Kapoor asked, according to the press note. He also demanded that the party publicly clarify its position if it did not intend to take action.

Kapoor said that holding public office should not place any elected representative beyond accountability. He reiterated that the Delhi BJP would continue to raise the issue and demand justice for the deceased worker’s family.

He also called for a fair and impartial investigation into the entire matter and said Kumar should explain why he should continue in office amid the allegations.
