Pankaj Nath, Assam: In the recently concluded 2026 Assam Assembly elections, BJP candidate Biswajit Daimary has registered a landslide victory in 2026 Assam Assembly seat in Tamulpur Assembly seat by defeating United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) Chairman and former BTC CEM Pramod Boro by 26,743 votes. According to the result data, Daimary got a total of 89,308 votes, while UPPL chief Boro got 62,565 votes. This is the first major victory of the BJP in the history of Tamulpur, which has changed the political scenario in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). After this huge mandate, the residents of Tamulpur district have directly called on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to induct MLA Biswajit Daimary into the state cabinet. Farmers, traders, youth and several women’s groups, along with leaders of local organisations, have demanded the CM to give Daimary the post of minister of forest department, environment, rural development department etc. Local leaders say that development projects remain pending in a border and forest-dominated area like Tamulpur without proper leadership. Biswajit Daimary, 55, is qualified as per postgraduate education and the election expenditure statement shows his net worth of around Rs 7.3 crore and liabilities of Rs 1 crore, with no moving case. During the election campaign, Daimary made extensive development promises for roads, electricity, healthcare and employment, which voters relied on. “Daimary proved that the public now wants to go with development-based policies by defeating the UPPL chief badly,” locals said. After this victory, construction plans for Tamulpur should be expedited by making him a minister. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, referring to the BJP-NDA’s victory in 102 of the 126-seat seats after the election results, said that eligible MLAs will be given a chance. UPPL did not even get to open an account in a seat like Tamulpur, while the defeat of a big leader like Boron has revealed the weakness of regional parties. Political analysts believe that the inclusion of Biswajit Daimary in the cabinet will further strengthen the BJP’s base in the Bodoland region and speed up construction, health and employment schemes for Tamulpur. Local residents are hoping that CM Sharma will soon consider this call and include Biswajit Daimary as a cabinet minister In the Assam Cabinet .
