SARIMUL LASKAR, SILCHAR:- A shocking and horrific incident has triggered widespread outrage in Baroitali village under Katigorah constituency in Cachar district.
A Class VIII minor schoolgirl was allegedly dragged by the hand and given an obscene proposal by a man named Ishaq Ali, aged over 50, on Friday morning.
According to the family’s complaint, the accused had been continuously harassing the girl for a long time. He would often stand on the roadside while she was going to or returning from school, making obscene gestures and lewd remarks. Out of fear and shame, the minor girl had not informed anyone earlier.
On Friday morning, while the girl was walking to school alone, Ishaq Ali allegedly grabbed her hand tightly, pulled her forcefully, and made an obscene sexual proposal. The terrified girl somehow managed to free herself and ran to the school.
Upon reaching school, she fell seriously ill due to extreme fear and mental trauma. After regaining consciousness, she broke down in tears and narrated the entire incident to her teachers. The teachers immediately informed her mother and family members.
Local MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha contacted the police and urged them to take strict action.
Though the accused had fled the spot and gone into hiding, police, with the active help of local villagers, launched a swift search and arrested Ishaq Ali shortly afterwards. He was taken to the local hospital for medical examination and is now being interrogated at the police station.
The news sparked intense protests in Baroitali village. Residents took to the streets demanding the harshest punishment for the accused. Many locals expressed serious concern, saying, “There is no safety for minor girls in the area. Such incidents are happening repeatedly on the way to school.”
Guardians also voiced deep worry, stating they will now hesitate to send their daughters to school.
According to police sources, a case has been registered based on the written complaint of the girl’s family, and investigation is underway.
