NEW DELHI: Delhi Government Minister for Art, Culture & Languages and Tourism Kapil Mishra held a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, and his delegation at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday, with discussions centred on agricultural development, farmers’ welfare and food security.
The meeting included presentations by the Delhi Government’s Development Department and the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB), outlining agricultural schemes and initiatives as well as Delhi’s mandi management system.
DAMB presented an overview of the supply and marketing chain for grains, vegetables, fruits and flowers, including the movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets and the role played by mandis.
“There is immense potential for cooperation between India and Nigeria in the field of agriculture and food security,” Mishra said, adding that sharing Delhi’s experience in farmer welfare, agricultural schemes and mandi management could benefit both countries.
“Technology, better management and a robust market system play a crucial role in protecting the interests of farmers as well as strengthening food security,” he said.
The Nigerian Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security thanked the Delhi Government for the meeting and presentations, describing the information shared as useful and informative.
Both sides also discussed expanding the exchange of knowledge, experience and expertise in agriculture and continuing dialogue on potential areas of cooperation in agricultural development and food security.
