Pankaj Nath, Assam , 6 September : In a significant operation against insurgent-linked activities in the region, the Lekhapani Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with NSCN (IM) from the general area Wara-1 on Saturday. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement and activities of OGWs associated with SS Maj Wangjen Pantha of NSCN (IM) and their alleged involvement in the recruitment of local youth, the Lekhapani Battalion launched a joint operation in the area. During the operation, two OGWs were apprehended. They were identified as Kekho Namet and Yumsen Mannow, both residents of Lazu Village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. Preliminary interrogation revealed their alleged links with SS Maj Wangjen Pantha, NSCN (IM) and their involvement in facilitating recruitment, logistical support, movement and communication of insurgent cadres. Further inputs also indicated their involvement in planning the movement of an NSCN (K-YA) cadre along with a weapon to their camp. The apprehension is expected to provide important leads regarding the support network, recruitment activities and movement of insurgent cadres operating in the region.
