NEW DELHI: Dr. S. Priya Natarajan, an educator, educational entrepreneur, social-service leader and women’s empowerment advocate, has emerged as an inspiring example of how personal adversity can be transformed into a sustained mission of education, livelihood creation and community development.
Born into a modest farming family, Natarajan experienced rural economic hardship and worked as a farm labourer during school holidays to support her family. Her formal education was interrupted at the age of 16 while she was studying in Class 10. Determined to continue learning, she resumed her studies through distance education while balancing professional and family responsibilities.
Her subsequent academic qualifications include a Master of Arts, Master of Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications.
From competitive examinations to empowering aspirants
Natarajan’s reported success in several government recruitment examinations—including TNPSC Group I, Group IIA, Group IV, Sub-Inspector and Police Constable examinations, as well as TNTET Paper II in 2026—later became the foundation for her mentoring work.
In 2022, she founded Avvaiyar IAS Academy, which reportedly grew from an initial strength of 73 students to more than 8,000 enrolments across its programmes. The profile states that nearly 3,000 candidates have secured government employment through competitive examinations.
