Amritsar/Chandigarh: In a significant crackdown on organised crime, Punjab Police have arrested three operatives linked to a foreign-backed gangster network and recovered three sophisticated foreign-made pistols along with ammunition from their possession.
The joint operation was carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar and Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar in coordination with a central agency. The arrests come days after Punjab Police seized a cache of 26 sophisticated firearms, including an AK-47 rifle.
The accused have been identified as Anmol Singh alias Mohla of Batala, Jagroop Singh alias Roopa of Batala, and Mohit Kumar alias Joban of Amritsar.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the trio was acting on the directions of foreign-based gangsters allegedly involved in gang wars, extortion and other criminal activities in Punjab. The accused were reportedly being used to transport weapons consignments and execute criminal assignments on behalf of their overseas handlers.
According to AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann, intelligence-led inputs led to the successful operation. Investigators have also linked Anmol Singh and Mohit Kumar to a murder case registered in Amritsar in September 2025 and an attempted murder case in Batala earlier this month.
Police said further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network, trace its international links and dismantle the organised crime syndicate operating through foreign-based handlers.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at SSOC Police Station, Amritsar.
