New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday participated in a signature campaign at the Arts Faculty of University of Delhi in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, calling for enhanced participation of women in decision-making and governance.
Addressing students and faculty, Gupta stressed that meaningful societal change hinges on women occupying positions of power, enabling them to address issues affecting families and communities more effectively. She highlighted Delhi government initiatives such as ‘Lakhpati Bitiya’ and ‘Anmol’, describing them as outcomes of an inclusive policy approach aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment and social security.
Terming the Nari Shakti Vandan Act a “historic step”, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its passage. She said the legislation marks a significant progression from the “Beti Bachao” campaign towards broader goals of women-led development.
Gupta noted that the demand for greater political representation for women dates back decades, tracing its origins to 1931, and said the law enacted in 2023 reflects a long-standing struggle. She emphasised that ensuring its effective implementation is now a shared responsibility and urged youth to support the initiative and help transform it into a mass movement.
A large number of students, teachers and citizens attended the event, endorsing the campaign and registering participation through a dedicated missed-call initiative.
Following the programme, the Chief Minister interacted informally with students and women faculty members over tea on campus, listening to their views and suggestions. She underlined the importance of direct engagement between public representatives and citizens, stating that accessible dialogue leads to more responsive and people-centric policymaking.
