New Delhi: The national capital is poised for a major transformation in its transport infrastructure, with several metro corridors and flyover projects slated for completion by December 2026. Reviewing the progress, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta underscored the government’s commitment to building a modern, efficient and pollution-free public transport system.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister assessed the pace of work on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation network, along with key road and flyover projects. She emphasised that easing traffic congestion, improving commuter convenience and reducing pollution remain top priorities.

Officials informed that the Delhi Metro network currently spans 416 km, covering 303 stations across 12 lines, including 32 interchange stations. An additional 104.45 km network with 81 stations is under construction. Phase IV corridors have gathered significant momentum, with physical progress nearing 80%.

Several stretches, including Majlis Park to Maujpur, Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park and Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension, are already operational. Key corridors targeted for completion by December 2026 include Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk, Majlis Park to Derawal Nagar, Derawal Nagar to R.K. Ashram, Tughlakabad to Sangam Vihar, Sangam Vihar to Saket G Block and Saket G Block to Aerocity. These projects are expected to significantly enhance connectivity across Delhi.

Work has also commenced on remaining Phase IV corridors such as Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, Inderlok to Indraprastha and Rithala to Kundli, with completion targeted by March 2029. Additionally, Phase V(A) projects, including R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha and Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal 1, have been initiated.

Parallelly, major integrated road projects are progressing across the city. A 2.16-km double-decker flyover from Azadpur to Tripolia Chowk, designed to carry both metro and vehicular traffic, is over 70% complete. Another flyover from Yamuna Vihar to Bhajanpura is nearing completion.

In South Delhi, work on a six-lane flyover from Saket G Block to Sangam Vihar, along with underpasses, is underway, while new proposals such as a 19.2-km elevated corridor along the Yamuna from Wazirabad to DND are in the pipeline.

Despite challenges such as land acquisition, tree clearance and regulatory approvals, the government is pushing for faster execution. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure strict monitoring and timely completion of all projects.

With large-scale expansion of the metro network and integrated road infrastructure, Delhi is set to witness faster, smoother and greener commuting in the coming years, significantly reducing congestion and pollution levels in the capital.
