New Delhi: Demonstrating swift administrative response and compassion in the aftermath of the devastating Malviya Nagar fire tragedy, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday visited a hospital in Saket to meet the injured victims and review their treatment.

Interacting personally with patients, doctors and family members, the Chief Minister directed hospital authorities to ensure the highest standard of medical care and continuous monitoring of all injured persons. Emphasising the government’s commitment to those affected, she said the Delhi Government stands firmly with every victim and their family during this difficult period.

In a major relief measure, Gupta announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and ₹5 lakh assistance for seriously injured victims. She also instructed officials to facilitate the dignified transportation of mortal remains to the hometowns of victims residing in other states or abroad.

Several patients remain in critical condition, with some on ventilator support. The victims include citizens from India as well as Bangladesh, Nepal, Cameroon and Libya. The Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure seamless coordination in handling cases involving foreign nationals.

Praise for Rescue Heroes

During her visit, Gupta was briefed about the courageous efforts of local residents, hotel staff, police personnel and volunteers who risked their lives to rescue those trapped in the blaze. Commending their humanitarian spirit and quick action, she ordered officials to identify and honour individuals who played a significant role in the rescue and relief operations.

Citywide Fire Safety Audit Ordered

Taking a firm stance on accountability, the Chief Minister ordered a detailed investigation into the incident following reports of serious safety lapses. She directed concerned departments to undertake a special audit of fire safety standards across hotels, commercial establishments and other public buildings in the national capital.

Gupta stated that strict action would be taken wherever negligence or violations of safety norms are found. She stressed the need to improve awareness regarding emergency exits, fire-fighting systems and evacuation procedures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Calling the incident “deeply tragic and painful,” the Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured that relief, treatment and rehabilitation efforts would remain the government’s top priority until every affected family receives the necessary support.
