Guwahati (Assam): Demand is growing across Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region for a special ministerial post for senior BPF leader and Deputy Chief Executive Member Rihon Daimary, with local organisations and residents asserting that his inclusion in the state cabinet would accelerate development and strengthen regional representation.
Daimary, who won the Udalguri Assembly seat in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections by a margin of 27,554 votes against UPPL candidate Dipen Boro, is being projected by supporters as a key figure for ensuring peace, infrastructure growth and economic progress in the Bodoland region.
Several BTC-based organisations said the BPF has consistently supported the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and argued that granting Daimary a special ministerial role would help prioritise issues such as education, healthcare, roads, employment and tribal welfare at the cabinet level.
The organisations also pointed to the Assam government’s past practice of accommodating NDA allies in the council of ministers, citing the induction of Charan Boro as a cabinet minister in 2025. They maintained that Daimary’s appointment would provide fresh momentum to Bodoland’s prosperity and ensure balanced regional development and inclusive governance.
Supporters further said the BJP-led government’s gradual expansion of the ministry between 2024 and 2026 reflected its commitment to alliance partners, including the BPF, whose partnership with the NDA has been viewed as a factor of political stability in the state.
Local groups expressed hope that accepting the demand would speed up development projects in the BTC region, create employment opportunities for youth and strengthen peace and unity across Assam.
