Govt, UNICEF Roll Out JANANI Portal to Track Every Mother and Child Across State

Bodh Gaya: In a major push towards strengthening maternal and child healthcare, the Bihar government and UNICEF have completed a statewide orientation programme on the JANANI (RCH 2.0) portal, a digital platform designed to improve tracking and delivery of healthcare services for mothers and children.
The two-day State-Level Review-cum-Orientation Workshop, organised by the State Health Society, Bihar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and UNICEF, brought together district health officials, programme managers and development partners from across the state.
Developed with UNICEF’s technical support, the JANANI platform enables end-to-end beneficiary tracking through QR-enabled Mother and Child Health Cards, automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, due-list generation and real-time monitoring dashboards. The system aims to strengthen reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent healthcare services while improving access and outcomes.
Addressing participants, Ms Monica Nielsen, Chief of the UNICEF Bihar Field Office, described JANANI as a transformative shift from fragmented paper-based systems to an integrated digital platform capable of tracking every mother and child throughout the continuum of care.
Technical sessions conducted by experts from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and UNICEF focused on beneficiary registration, antenatal and postnatal care, high-risk pregnancy monitoring, delivery preparedness, child registration and family planning services. Participants also received hands-on training on various portal functionalities.
The workshop further explored integration of JANANI with national digital health initiatives, including the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), Health Facility Registry, Health Professional Registry, POSHAN and U-WIN platforms.
Officials said the initiative would enhance real-time monitoring, improve data quality and support evidence-based decision-making, while ensuring timely healthcare services for mothers and children across Bihar. The workshop concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to accelerate the effective statewide rollout of the JANANI platform.
