New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday hailed the Centre’s massive infrastructure expansion plan for Delhi-NCR, thanking Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for spearheading projects aimed at decongesting the capital and improving connectivity.

Addressing the media after a briefing by Gadkari, the Chief Minister said the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was building a “future-ready” Delhi through expressways, tunnels, elevated corridors and signal-free road networks.

Gupta said road infrastructure projects worth ₹1.31 lakh crore had already been sanctioned in the Delhi-NCR region over the past 12 years, while the total value of completed, ongoing and upcoming projects has now touched nearly ₹1.60 lakh crore.

Calling the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link a “historic gift” for the capital, the Chief Minister said the corridor would provide seamless connectivity between Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram and Jewar Airport.

Among the major projects announced are a ₹3,500 crore six-lane corridor linking UER-II with the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a ₹7,500 crore Noida-Faridabad high-speed corridor, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra connectivity project, a ₹7,000 crore tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg, and a ₹5,000 crore elevated corridor connecting AIIMS with Mahipalpur-Gurugram.

Gupta said additional projects, including the Kalindi Kunj interchange, Ashram-Badarpur six-lane corridor, signal-free connectivity from the Haryana border to Punjabi Bagh, and the Mehrauli-Delhi border corridor, would significantly ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

Highlighting the environmental aspect of the infrastructure drive, the Chief Minister said waste and inert material from Delhi’s landfill sites were being utilised in road construction projects, helping tackle the city’s long-standing garbage and pollution problems.

“The double-engine government is giving fresh momentum to both infrastructure growth and environmental improvement,” Gupta said, expressing confidence that Delhi would emerge as a cleaner, smoother and world-class capital in the coming years.
