Pankaj Nath, Assam: In Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP and NDA Legislature Party. With this decision, all preparations have been completed for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the event. The historic decision was taken at an important meeting of the newly elected NDA MLAs in Guwahati on Sunday. Union Minister J.P. Nadda was present on the occasion. Nadda announced that Sarma’s name was proposed eight times by senior leaders. These included prominent leaders like Ranjit Kumar Das, Biswajit Daimary, Ajanta Neug, Rameshwar Teli, Rajdeep Roy, Ashok Singhal, Pijush Hazarika and Chakradhar Gogoi. MLAs from the NDA constituents — BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) — participated in the meeting. AGP president Atul Bora and BPF’s Rihon Daimary also openly supported Sarma’s name. After this, he was unanimously elected the leader of both the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party. This will be Himanta Biswa Sarma’s second consecutive term. He will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam on May 12. Prime Minister Modi’s presence at the swearing-in ceremony will make this victory significant at the national level. The NDA performed brilliantly in the Assam Assembly elections. The NDA won 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly, while the opposition got only 24 seats. The BJP alone won 82 seats, while allies AGP and BPF got 10 seats each. The Congress-led coalition in the opposition got 19 seats. Raijor Dal got two seats, AIUDF got two seats, while Asom Jatiya Parishad could not win a single seat. This immense success has clearly underscored the NDA’s unwavering hold in Assam. Under Sarma’s leadership, renewed hopes of development, stability and prosperity have been rekindled in the state .
