
SARIMUL LASKAR, SILCHAR :- In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Cachar Police intercepted a truck and seized a huge consignment of Codeine Phosphate Syrup from the Puticherra Toll Gate on National Highway-27 under Borkhola Police Station.
Acting on credible intelligence, police set up a naka checking point at the toll gate. During the operation, a 6-wheeler truck bearing registration number AS 01 PC 8530 was stopped and thoroughly searched. Police recovered as many as 21,600 bottles of Codeine Phosphate Syrup packed in 144 cartons from the vehicle. Two mobile phones were also seized along with the truck.
The driver of the truck, Mitan Sarkar (37), a resident of West Tripura, was apprehended on the spot. He is currently being interrogated by police.Police sources suspect that the consignment was being smuggled illegally, possibly for trafficking across the border. The massive seizure is being seen as a major blow to the drug smuggling network operating in the region.
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full racket and identify other persons involved.
