New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Friday participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign at the University of Delhi, administering the Swachhata Pledge with faculty members and students and undertaking Shramdaan from Gwyer Hall to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

The special programme focused on cleanliness, public participation, environmental protection and civic responsibility. It was coordinated by Prof. K. P. Singh, Nodal Officer for Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

The programme began with Prof. Payal Mago, Director, School of Open Learning (SOL), administering the Swachhata Pledge to participants. This was followed by a cleanliness drive on the university campus, in which the Chief Minister joined faculty members, students and other participants.
The collective participation gave the campaign a strong Jan Bhagidari character, with emphasis on maintaining clean campuses and public spaces and promoting civic responsibility.
Prof. K. P. Singh said the campaign is being conducted from September 17 to October 2026 and seeks to connect cleanliness with wider public participation.
As part of the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ cleanliness campaign, Gupta personally undertook Shramdaan and also inspected cleaning and maintenance works in the Kamla Nehru Ridge area. She stressed that cleanliness should not remain confined to a single day but should become a regular civic responsibility.
The Chief Minister later undertook plantation in the Kamla Nehru Ridge area, adding an environmental conservation component to the cleanliness initiative. The programme highlighted the importance of protecting green spaces alongside maintaining clean public areas.
The event conveyed the message that cleanliness is not merely an administrative responsibility but a collective social duty. The participation of students and faculty members also underscored the role of educational institutions in promoting cleanliness, environmental protection and civic awareness.
Among those present were Prof. Rajni Abbi, Director, South Campus; Prof. Niranjan Kumar, Dean, Planning; Prof. Ranjan Tripathi, Dean, Students’ Welfare; Prof. Anil Rai and others.
