Visakhapatnam: The 13th edition of the India-Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise, SLINEX-26, is being conducted at Visakhapatnam from September 17 to 21, with the two navies focusing on strengthening maritime cooperation, interoperability and operational coordination.

The exercise commenced with the Harbour Phase and will be followed by the Sea Phase, which will focus on enhancing operational synergy through coordinated activities at sea.

The Indian Navy is participating with INS Kavaratti, an indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette, and INS Jyoti, the Fleet Tanker. The Sri Lanka Navy is represented by SLNS Sindurala.

Conceptualised in 2005, SLINEX has evolved into an important forum for fostering maritime cooperation, mutual understanding and interoperability between the two navies.

Conducted under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command, the Harbour Phase began with an opening ceremony and reception onboard INS Kavaratti for the visiting crew of SLNS Sindurala. The phase includes professional interactions, cross-deck visits, sharing of best practices, Yoga, sports and cultural activities.

The subsequent Sea Phase will provide an opportunity for the participating navies to enhance their operational coordination and interoperability through joint activities at sea.
