Two pistols, live cartridges and motorcycles seized; one accused injured in exchange of fire with AGTF

Chandigarh/Bathinda: In a major anti-gang operation, the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) arrested four alleged gangsters after a brief exchange of fire near Sirhind Canal Link Road in Bathinda, thwarting an alleged plot to eliminate a rival gang member.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Kala, Sukhchain Singh alias Pila, Gurvinder Singh alias Mana, all residents of Salabatpura village, and Jashanpreet alias Jassi of Dullewala village in Bathinda.
Police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol, a .30 bore pistol, five live cartridges and two empty shells from their possession. Two motorcycles—a Royal Enfield Bullet and a Hero Splendor—used by the accused were also seized.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused are linked to a criminal network and are wanted in a recently registered criminal case at Bhagta Bhaika police station in Bathinda. Further investigations are underway to trace their associates and unravel the wider network.
According to ADGP, AGTF, Promod Ban, the police team acted on specific intelligence and intercepted the suspects travelling on two motorcycles near Gobindpura village. On spotting the police, the accused allegedly opened fire to evade arrest, prompting the AGTF team to retaliate in self-defence.
During the exchange, accused Gurvinder Singh alias Mana sustained a bullet injury to his leg, while two bullets hit the official police vehicle. He is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.
Police said the accused were allegedly on their way to target a member of a rival gang. The four have a criminal background, with multiple cases related to attempt to murder, dacoity, the Arms Act and the NDPS Act registered against them.
An FIR is being registered at Bathinda Cantonment police station under relevant provisions of law.
