Modern classrooms, smart facilities, enhanced safety and inclusive infrastructure to redefine government education

By Chandan Singh | Page 3 News Worldwide | New Delhi

New Delhi: In a major boost to Delhi’s government education infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a ₹265-crore project to comprehensively transform 75 CM SHRI Schools with modern facilities, upgraded campuses and enhanced safety measures.

The proposal, cleared by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, aims to create technology-enabled, inclusive and student-friendly learning spaces rather than merely renovating existing school buildings.

The ambitious project will modernise school campuses through redesigned entrance gates carrying the CM SHRI identity, structural repairs, waterproofing, fresh interiors and exteriors, upgraded toilets, improved drinking water facilities, better sewerage and drainage systems, renovated multipurpose halls and strengthened rainwater harvesting infrastructure.

To improve the overall learning environment, the schools will be equipped with upgraded sports facilities, CCTV surveillance, high-mast lighting, fire safety systems, modern public address systems, LED signage, RO water coolers, improved electrical networks, LAN connectivity and air-conditioned computer laboratories and multipurpose halls.

Special emphasis has also been placed on accessibility for children with special needs through ramps, tactile pathways and handrails. The project further envisages attractive outdoor learning galleries, upgraded playgrounds and new turf on basketball courts to promote interactive and activity-based education.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government is committed to providing government school students with safe, clean, modern and inspiring campuses that offer a high-quality learning environment. She said the initiative reflects the government’s vision of developing government schools into world-class educational campuses equipped with modern infrastructure and technology.

The government has set a target of completing the transformation of all 75 CM SHRI Schools by the end of next year, marking a significant step towards strengthening Delhi’s public education infrastructure.
