NEW DELHI: Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTBH) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiastic participation from hospital staff, students, patients and members of the public.

The celebrations began with the arrival of GTBH Medical Director Dr Vinod Kumar and the Principal of University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), who received a ceremonial salute and parade by NCC cadets of Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, J&K Pocket, Dilshad Garden. The National Flag was then hoisted, followed by the National Anthem and the National Song.

A cultural programme at the Library Hall featured patriotic songs, poems, dances and speeches by doctors, nursing officers, nursing students and housekeeping staff from GTB Hospital and Florence Nightingale College of Nursing. Officers from GTBH and UCMS also addressed the gathering and extended Independence Day greetings.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Vinod Kumar highlighted efforts to strengthen patient care and hospital services. He said the Emergency services at GTBH, except Gynaecology and Paediatrics Emergency services, which cater to around 1,000 patients daily, are scheduled to be shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital from August 18.

He also said approvals for establishing a 250-bed trauma centre at GTBH under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) are under process. The proposed facility is expected to strengthen trauma-care services in East Delhi.
