Chandigarh/Ferozepur: In a major crackdown on narco-smuggling, Punjab Police arrested three alleged drug traffickers in two separate intelligence-led operations in Ferozepur and recovered over 12 kg of narcotics, including heroin and methamphetamine, along with an illegal pistol.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the police teams seized 10.125 kg heroin, 2 kg ICE (methamphetamine), and a .30 bore Turkiye pistol from the accused, exposing what officials described as an organised drug supply chain operating in the region.
The arrested accused were identified as Om alias Omi (23) of Leli Wala village, and Aniket Kumar (22) and Sumit (23), both residents of Shanti Nagar in Ferozepur. Police also impounded a Hero Splendor motorcycle allegedly used for drug trafficking.
Sharing details of the first operation, SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said CIA Staff teams intercepted Om near a brick kiln on the Khai Feme Ke-Habib Ke road and recovered a massive heroin consignment from his possession.
In another operation, police intercepted Aniket Kumar and Sumit while they were allegedly on their way to deliver synthetic drugs and weapons. The duo was caught with 2 kg ICE drug and a .30 bore pistol.
DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of a wider narcotics network, and police are now probing backward and forward linkages to trace suppliers, receivers and other associates connected to the syndicate.
Police said further arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days. Separate FIRs under the NDPS Act and Arms Act have been registered at Sadar Ferozepur and Arif Ke police stations.
