New Delhi, September 19, 2026: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has secured a 3-0 victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with Yash Dabas winning the President’s post, Riya Chhawdi the Secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh the Joint Secretary’s post.
ABVP said the result reflects support among Delhi University students for its student-centric approach, nationalism and emphasis on social harmony. The election also saw participation from Congress, NSUI, the Aam Aadmi Party and other organisations.
ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki said the result reflected students’ trust in the organisation’s work, ideology and organisational commitment. He said ABVP workers remained disciplined and committed to the democratic process despite what he described as attempts to create disturbances during the election.
Solanki said ABVP candidates are selected through an organisational process involving student participation rather than “closed-door political calculations”. He added that the DUSU outcome demonstrated students’ preference for social harmony over caste-based divisions and argued that student politics requires sustained engagement with students rather than reliance on external political influence.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said the result demonstrated, in his assessment, that the involvement of established political organisations does not by itself translate into success in student elections. He said student politics ultimately depends on campus-level engagement, consistent work and attention to student concerns.
Newly elected DUSU President Yash Dabas said the mandate represented students’ trust in social harmony, patriotism and student participation. He said the new union would seek to move beyond caste and divisive politics while focusing on student and national issues.
DUSU Secretary Riya Chhawdi thanked Delhi University students for entrusting her with the responsibility and said the union would focus on student safety, better facilities, equal opportunities and a positive academic environment. She specifically highlighted the need to address concerns of women students.
Joint Secretary Lakshya Raj Singh said the result reflected the unity of ABVP workers and the trust placed in them by students. He said the elected representatives would remain accessible and work consistently to address concerns on campus.
