Chandigarh/Faridkot, September 20: Faridkot Police has busted a cross-border drug and illegal arms smuggling network with the arrest of four operatives and the recovery of 47.3 kg of heroin, three .30-bore pistols, three magazines and 15 live cartridges, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.

The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive, under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to make Punjab a safe and secure state.

The accused have been identified as Ankush of Ghubaya in Ferozepur, Mangal Singh of Panje Ke Utar in Ferozepur, Sachin alias Sanju of Parbhat Singh Wala in Ferozepur and Anmol Singh of Lamochar Khurd in Ferozepur. Police have also impounded two vehicles—a Honda City and a Hyundai Aura—which were allegedly being used in the smuggling operations.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicated that the arrested accused were linked to a network involved in the cross-border smuggling of heroin and illegal arms into Punjab. He said further investigation was underway to uncover the wider network and establish its forward and backward linkages.

Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurbans Singh Bains said the breakthrough came during a special naka set up ahead of the Baba Farid Agman Purab festival. A CIA Faridkot team intercepted a Honda City during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and apprehended its four occupants.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of the 47.3-kg heroin consignment along with the illegal firearms and ammunition, the SSP said.

According to Bains, the investigation has further revealed that the gang was allegedly receiving heroin and weapons dropped by drones from across the border in the border areas of Fazilka and Ferozepur districts. The consignments were subsequently intended for distribution within the state, he said.

Police said further investigation is continuing to trace the wider network and its connections.

A case, FIR No. 187 dated September 20, 2026, has been registered at Police Station Sadiq in Faridkot under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act and Sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act.
