Chennai: In a rare blend of military distinction and academic honour, former Special Forces commander Dr. Pawan Josh was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in National Security & Strategic Studies (Honoris Causa) at the prestigious Conclave 2026 organised by United American University in Chennai.
The doctorate was awarded in recognition of his “exemplary dedication, sustained excellence, and notable contributions” to national security and society. The ceremony was held under the banner of the QHE Association, an ISO 9001:2015 certified body, and attended by leading academicians, dignitaries and institutional heads.
Dr. Josh, known for commanding elite military formations and his outspoken views on strategic affairs, received the honour in full doctoral regalia amid applause from delegates and attendees.
During the ceremony, a senior university representative remarked, “Medals are worn by many. But only a few earn the right to wear the uniform of intellect after shedding the uniform of war.”
The honorary doctorate marks a significant recognition of Dr. Josh’s transition from battlefield leadership to strategic thought leadership, highlighting his continued engagement with national security discourse beyond military service.
