Patna | The Raj Bhawan in Patna marked World Children’s Day on Thursday with a special programme that brought together children, UNICEF officials and partner organisations to highlight child rights and conclude Children’s Week celebrations held from 14 to 20 November. This year’s theme, “My Day. My Rights.”, emphasised recognising children as active participants in shaping society.
Hon’ble Governor Shree Arif Mohammad Khan inaugurated the event in the Darbar Hall, where children from Kilkari presented a ‘Bal Saptah’ bulletin as a token of the week-long activities. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said children are “not only the future but contributors to society today,” stressing the need for consistent action in education, health, nutrition and safety. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that every child feels heard and supported.
Ms Margaret Gwada, Chief of UNICEF’s Bihar Field Office, underscored the need for inclusive spaces where children can confidently express their views and aspirations.
The programme featured a song on child rights, followed by an interaction between the Governor and young participants. Children shared concerns and suggestions on creating a safer and more inclusive Bihar, raising issues of protection, equality, participation and the need for nurturing environments.
Children from Kilkari, Social Warrior, Prayas, SSEVS, Nari Gunjan, Rainbow Homes and Be For Nation took part, adding diversity and energy to the event. The Governor appreciated UNICEF and partner organisations for enabling meaningful child participation, noting that safeguarding child rights is a shared responsibility.
The ceremony concluded with a group photograph on the Raj Bhawan lawns and High Tea. The week also featured radio takeovers, plays, panel discussions and youth-led awareness drives on issues including sanitation, climate change, gender equality and child rights.
