Peshawar: Two women belonging to a family from Sindh were killed in a terrorist attack in Balochistan on Sunday, while security forces killed seven terrorists in a separate operation in Kharan district, officials said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in the Laje area of Kharan on Saturday night after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. Seven militants affiliated with the banned organisation referred to by the Pakistani government as “Fitna al-Khawarij” were killed, while several others were injured.
The operation followed a series of deadly incidents in Balochistan. On July 6, armed attackers targeted a police post at the Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat, abducting and killing 27 police personnel.
ISPR said that on August 12, an explosive device fitted to a vehicle detonated prematurely while it was being prepared, triggering a subsequent security operation in which 21 people, including 18 terrorists, were killed. Earlier, security forces had killed 20 terrorists in separate operations across the province on August 9 and 10.
In another attack on Saturday, a family from Karachi travelling to Balochistan for business was targeted in the tribal area of Segi in Qila Abdullah district. Two women from the family were shot dead in the incident.
The latest violence comes amid heightened security operations and a continued wave of terrorist attacks across Balochistan.
