Before Donald Trump was due to address the White House Correspondents’ dinner, Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that “some shots would be fired in the room.” The remark went viral after an assassination attempt on Trump overshadowed the event.

The annual White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday was overshadowed by an assassination attempt against US President Donald Trump. The suspect has since been apprehended and the situation brought under control.

However, a clip from before the shooting has gone viral, with a remark by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt drawing widespread attention for its choice of words.

Speaking to Fox News just before Trump was set to address the gathering, an enthusiastic Leavitt said she was looking forward to the event, adding that “some shots will be fired in the room.”

“He is ready to rumble. His speech will be classic Donald J Trump. It will be funny and entertaining. There will be some shots fired in the room tonight,” she said.

Leavitt also credited Trump for writing most parts of his speech while urging the audience to hear him out.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP

Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday night after loud bangs triggered panic and a massive security response.

According to officials, a man armed with a shotgun attempted to breach security near the event’s main screening area. An FBI official said the suspect fired at a Secret Service agent, but the bullet struck protective gear and the agent was not harmed.

Roughly 2,600 attendees were present at the venue, with many taking cover as chaos unfolded.

Trump later shared a high-resolution image showing armed security personnel restraining Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old suspect who breached security at the event.

According to the Washington, DC Police, the man was staying as a guest in the White House Hilton Hotel, where the dinner was held.

The shooter was taken to the hospital after the US security forces took him into custody. Carroll told AP that the suspect did not sustain any gunshot injury.
