Chandigarh/Batala: As part of the ongoing anti-gangster campaign ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday reviewed action against gangsters and organised crime, with a special focus on border districts.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Batala, the DGP assessed the law and order situation and efforts to dismantle cross-border terror–crime nexuses, while reiterating a zero-tolerance policy towards extortion and gang-related activities. The meeting was attended by senior officers, including ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force Promod Ban, ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad, CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, DIGs of Border and Ferozepur Ranges, and SSPs of Amritsar Rural, Batala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran and other districts.
Officers reviewed crime trends, counter-intelligence measures, operational preparedness and joint action plans across the Border and Ferozepur Ranges, besides discussing community engagement initiatives to root out criminal elements.
Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, DGP Yadav said the campaign, launched on January 20 as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has yielded significant results. He revealed that 100 kg of heroin was recovered in the last two days alone.
Sharing details of the first 11 days of the drive, the DGP said police teams conducted 12,275 raids across Punjab, during which 8,671 persons were rounded up and 3,721 arrested. Additionally, 1,796 individuals were detained and 3,154 released after questioning.
Reiterating that Punjab Police is in full action mode, Yadav asserted that no gangster or drug smuggler would be spared. He said gangsters operating from abroad and masterminding crimes would also be brought back to Punjab to face justice, as done in several earlier cases.
The DGP appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to stay away from crime and anti-social elements and to channel their energy positively, stressing that there is no place for crime in Punjab. He also urged citizens to make use of the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946 to confidentially share information related to gangster or criminal activities, assuring complete secrecy of informants’ identities.
Later, DGP Yadav interacted with all Station House Officers (SHOs) and Gazetted Officers of Batala police district, focusing on boosting morale and reinforcing professional commitment. He highlighted the crucial role of ground-level officers in maintaining public order, preventing crime and dismantling organised criminal networks.
