LG Vinai Kumar Saxena, CM Rekha Gupta inaugurate six-storey structure; focus on easing congestion in South Delhi

New Delhi, February 16, 2026: In a significant push towards easing traffic congestion in the Capital, an ultra-modern multi-level car parking facility was inaugurated at Nehru Place District Centre on Monday by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The six-storey structure, developed at the busy commercial hub of Nehru Place, has a capacity to accommodate 650 cars and 352 two-wheelers at a time. On a rotational basis, the facility is expected to serve nearly 2,000 vehicles daily, offering major relief to commuters and shopkeepers in the area long plagued by parking shortages.
Member of Parliament from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, DDA Vice Chairman N. Saravana Kumar and other senior officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta credited the Lieutenant Governor’s leadership and the support of the Central Government for accelerating infrastructure projects in the city. She said coordinated efforts between the Delhi Government, the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the Centre have begun yielding tangible results in urban development.
Gupta noted that several public welfare projects had remained pending in the past due to lack of effective coordination. In contrast, she said, the present administration has focused on close monitoring of projects related to drain cleaning, road construction and civic infrastructure.
Highlighting the broader vision, the Chief Minister said the government is preparing a comprehensive plan to develop parks or additional parking facilities on available DDA land in areas facing acute parking shortages.
She also pointed out that an automatic multi-level puzzle parking facility in Punjabi Bagh and a modern automatic shuttle parking facility in Greater Kailash had been inaugurated earlier, while several parking proposals under previous governments had remained stalled.
Calling the Nehru Place facility a “significant step” in meeting Delhi’s growing urban needs, Gupta said the government remains committed to making the Capital cleaner, better organised and more developed through coordinated governance and accelerated execution of projects.
