Indian-origin social media influencer Nancy Grewal was stabbed to death in Canada’s LaSalle town near Windsor, with her mother alleging she was attacked 18 times and killed due to an old dispute.

Indian-origin social media influencer Nancy Grewal was stabbed to death in Canada’s LaSalle town near Windsor on Tuesday evening, her mother has alleged. Grewal, who hailed from Narang village in Punjab’s Ludhiana, was allegedly attacked outside a house by unidentified assailants.

Shinder Pal Grewal, Nancy’s mother, alleged that the attackers stabbed her daughter 18 times in the stomach and claimed the killing stemmed from an earlier dispute. She also alleged that her daughter’s tongue had been chopped off during the attack.

According to the family, Grewal had gone to LaSalle to visit a patient. As she stepped outside the house in the evening, she was allegedly ambushed and killed.

Her mother claimed the assailants had planned the attack at a spot where there were no CCTV cameras.

Shinder Pal Grewal said her daughter had received death threats earlier and that her house had been set on fire about two months ago. A complaint regarding the incident had been filed with the police, she added.

She further alleged that Nancy had ongoing disputes with some individuals linked to a gurdwara located on County Road.

According to her mother, the influencer had raised concerns about ration allegedly being stolen from the gurdwara and had helped install cameras there.

“She stood by the truth and refused to apologise despite pressure,” her mother said, adding that the disagreement later escalated into hostility.

Nancy Grewal was active on social media and often responded to abusive comments directed at her online, her mother said.

However, she had not posted any videos for the past three months as she was focusing on her work.

The family said Grewal worked as a nurse and was employed with two companies, often working shifts that lasted up to 16 hours a day.

Her mother alleged that the people involved in the earlier arson attack on her daughter’s house could also be behind the killing. That incident was reported to the police.

Shinder Pal Grewal also claimed that whenever her daughter received threatening messages or notes, she would immediately inform the police, but no effective action was taken.

Nancy Grewal was 45-years-old and had not remarried after her divorce.

Her body has been kept at a mortuary in Canada, and her mother said she plans to travel there to see her daughter.

She has appealed to both Indian and Canadian authorities to ensure her safety, saying she fears for her life after her daughter’s killing.
