
Bangkok: As India and Thailand prepare to mark 80 years of diplomatic relations, a high-level delegation led by Track-II diplomacy strategist and BIMSTEC regional cooperation advocate Rahul Laxman Patil met Indian Ambassador to Thailand, Puneet Agrawal, at the Indian Embassy in Bangkok to discuss avenues for deepening bilateral engagement.
The delegation, which included Melvin Mathew and Avneesh Kabra, held discussions on strengthening cultural diplomacy, boosting youth engagement, expanding tourism, and enhancing trade cooperation between the two nations.
Highlighting the centuries-old civilisational ties rooted in Buddhism and the Ramayana tradition, both sides emphasized leveraging shared heritage to foster stronger people-to-people connections. The talks also focused on promoting Buddhist tourism circuits, wellness tourism, academic exchanges, and youth-focused initiatives.
Recognising Thailand’s role as a gateway to Southeast Asia and India’s rapidly expanding economy, the discussions explored opportunities for collaboration in start-ups, innovation, agriculture, digital technology, and renewable energy sectors.
The meeting also underscored the strategic importance of regional cooperation through the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation framework. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening connectivity, maritime security, and economic integration across the Bay of Bengal region and the wider Indo-Pacific.
The interaction reinforced the growing momentum in India–Thailand relations and highlighted the shared vision of both nations for greater regional prosperity and cooperation.
