Chandigarh, September 15: Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has taken custody of Karamveer Singh, described by police as a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, following his deportation from Canada, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
Singh, a resident of Bahadur Ke village in Ludhiana, was apprehended by an AGTF team at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after his arrival from Canada.
The development comes amid Punjab Police’s ongoing drive against transnational organised crime and gangster networks, being pursued under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
According to DGP Yadav, Karamveer Singh had allegedly provided logistical support and a hideout to Anmol Bishnoi in the United States. He was wanted in connection with an FIR registered at the State Crime Police Station, SAS Nagar, under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Passport Act.
The AGTF had initiated a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Singh on September 3, 2026, the DGP said.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban said Singh had an extensive criminal history in Punjab, with at least five criminal cases involving allegations related to murder, attempt to murder, armed robbery, extortion, offences under the Arms Act and other criminal activities.
“Further investigations are underway to establish his operational connections, illicit funding channels and linkages with other members of the gang,” the ADGP said.
The latest action follows Punjab Police’s recent efforts, with assistance from central agencies, to secure the extradition of fugitive criminal Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam from the Republic of Moldova. Police have identified him as a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang.
The Punjab Police said the action against Karamveer Singh marks another step in its efforts to trace alleged associates, operational networks and financial channels linked to organised gangster activity.
