
New Delhi (Page 3 News Worldwide): The National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) and Thrissur-based Kairali Agriculture Multi State Cooperative Society Ltd. have signed an MoU to promote cooperative-driven carbon emission reduction and climate-smart agriculture across the country. The agreement was exchanged on November 18 at the office of NCUI Chairman Dileep Sanghani in New Delhi.
Calling the partnership a major step toward sustainable agriculture, Sanghani said the collaboration would help NCUI launch carbon emission programmes benefiting farmers and cooperatives nationwide. He emphasised the cooperative sector’s crucial role in environmental stewardship and appreciated Kairali’s efforts to boost farmer incomes through carbon credit initiatives.
The MoU aims to strengthen green finance access, promote sustainable cultivation techniques, and build farmer capacity for carbon credit generation through cooperative models. A key component of the partnership is Kairali’s AGRONET mobile application, which enables digital farmer enrolment, real-time monitoring of climate-friendly practices and transparent tracking of carbon credits.
Officials said the collaboration seeks to expand India’s cooperative-led carbon credit ecosystem to global markets, opening pathways for cross-border carbon trading and international climate mitigation projects. It will also support innovative initiatives such as microalgae-based “Liquid Tree” air purification systems and black soldier fly (BSF) larvae–based circular bio-waste management units.
Senior representatives from both organisations—including NCUI CEO Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Kairali MSCS Chairman K.V. Asokan, Project Head Latheesh V.K., and CEO Pradeep Kumar—attended the event. Kairali officials briefed NCUI on their work delivering carbon credit benefits to more than 5,000 farmers in Kerala and pledged support for scaling similar programmes across India and neighbouring countries.
The partnership is expected to accelerate cooperative-led green development and contribute to India’s Sustainable Development Goals.
