
Chandigarh/Jalandhar: Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday visited Jalandhar and reviewed the investigation into the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary Satwinderpal Singh, alias Lucky Oberoi. The DGP also inspected the crime scene to take a firsthand account of the incident.
Holding a high-level meeting with senior police officers, Yadav said the Punjab government was firmly committed to maintaining law and order and assured that those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice and awarded exemplary punishment under the law. Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur accompanied him during the visit.
Addressing the media at the spot, the DGP said Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was personally monitoring the case and was being regularly briefed on the progress of the investigation.
According to police, Lucky Oberoi was shot by unidentified assailants riding a white Activa scooter on Friday morning at the Gurudwara Singh Sabha parking in Model Town, Jalandhar, when he was leaving after paying obeisance. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Yadav said the investigation was being carried out in a professional and scientific manner, with police teams tracking both forward and backward movements of the suspects. He added that mobile tower dumps had been collected for technical analysis and that all possible angles of the crime were being thoroughly examined.
Providing further details, CP Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary investigations revealed that the two accused, both wearing black hoodies, fled the spot on the Activa scooter. She said further investigations were underway.
An FIR (No. 25 dated February 6, 2026) has been registered under Sections 103(1), 3(5) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at Police Station Division 6, Jalandhar Commissionerate.
