Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa

New Delhi: Delhi’s Food Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Sunday assured residents that there is no shortage of cooking gas in the national capital and urged people to avoid panic-buying amid concerns triggered by global supply disruptions.

In a statement, Sirsa said the Delhi government has deployed 70 monitoring teams comprising officials from the police, the Weights and Measures Department, and the Food and Supplies Department to keep a close watch on LPG availability and market practices across the city.

“There is no need for any panic. Supplies are fully in order,” the minister said, adding that strict action will be taken against hoarders and anyone involved in unfair trade practices.

Officials said rumours about shortages, coupled with global supply pressures from disruptions in the Gulf region, had created temporary anxiety among consumers. Sirsa urged citizens not to fall prey to misinformation, noting that such speculation can trigger unnecessary panic-buying.

The minister also said the government has initiated regulated sales of commercial LPG cylinders following directions from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in coordination with oil marketing companies.

Under the arrangement, up to 20% of the average daily commercial LPG consumption—about 1,800 cylinders—will be supplied through a priority system for essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, restaurants and dairies. Distribution will take place through 19-kg cylinders with bookings processed on a first-in-first-out basis to prevent hoarding.
