New Delhi: Marking the eve of International Nurses Day, Rekha Gupta paid a surprise visit to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital on Monday, where she interacted with nursing staff, praised their dedication and announced a major increase in stipends for nursing interns.
During her visit to various wards of LNJP Hospital, the Chief Minister held informal interactions with nurses, listened to their experiences and acknowledged the challenges they face while serving patients round the clock. She also presented flowers to the nursing staff, a gesture that left many emotional. Several nurses described the interaction as one of the most memorable moments of their careers.
Calling nursing a symbol of compassion and humanity, Rekha Gupta said nurses not only assist in treatment but also provide emotional support that plays a crucial role in patient recovery. She lauded their patience, commitment and spirit of selfless service.
The Chief Minister interacted with nurses from states including Kerala, Rajasthan and Punjab, stating that healthcare professionals from across the country have contributed significantly to making Delhi’s healthcare system world-class.
In a major announcement, Gupta said the Delhi Government has implemented a 27-fold increase in stipends for nursing interns after a gap of 27 years. The stipend has been raised from ₹500 to ₹13,150, benefiting 180 nursing interns.
To strengthen healthcare services further, the government has also distributed appointment letters to 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff members.
Reaffirming her government’s commitment to healthcare workers, the Chief Minister said ensuring dignity, better work culture and protection of rights for nursing staff remains a priority. She also extended greetings to nurses on International Nurses Day and wished them good health and continued strength in serving humanity.
