Chandigarh: In a significant step towards strengthening global peace efforts, leaders from faith-based and human-rights communities have pledged deeper cooperation on conflict prevention, inclusion and humanitarian action following high-level talks in India.

Dr. Parvinder Inder Singh, President of the World Buddhist Federation and representative of the World Peace Rescue Mission, met Padma Shri awardee Jitender Singh Shunty, a member of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, for extensive discussions on global peace initiatives and pressing human-rights challenges.

The meeting focused on rising conflicts, social polarisation and discrimination worldwide, with both leaders emphasising the urgent need for collaborative, non-violent responses rooted in compassion, justice and respect for all communities.

Dr. Singh highlighted the pivotal role of interfaith organisations working alongside constitutional and statutory human-rights bodies in preventing violence, countering hate speech and promoting inclusive development. He called for structured partnerships, joint advocacy efforts and sustained dialogue between international networks and regional institutions.

Shunty welcomed the initiative, stressing the importance of translating human-rights principles into tangible protections for vulnerable sections, including women, children, minorities and those affected by poverty or displacement. He underlined that sharing best practices between local commissions and global platforms could strengthen early-warning systems and ensure accountability.

Both sides agreed to explore future collaboration through conferences, awareness campaigns and capacity-building programmes centred on peace education, conflict resolution and humanitarian outreach.

The meeting concluded with a joint appeal to governments, civil society and faith leaders worldwide to work collectively to uphold human dignity and build a more peaceful and equitable global order. Further details on joint initiatives are expected following subsequent consultations between the participating organisations.
